A
respected authority on treating cataracts
If your vision is becoming cloudy or dim, you may be developing cataracts.
Cataracts usually occur in older people, and will eventually destroy your
sight. The good news is, Dr. Bernstein is recognized nationwide as an authority
in small incision cataract surgery. In fact, he's trained countless visiting
ophthalmologists in this safe, effective surgical method. In a simple procedure,
your impaired natural lens will be removed and replaced with a permanent,
trouble free lens implant. Following convenient outpatient surgery, you'll begin to see better in no time. Your
new lens implant will help to filter damaging ultraviolet light, requires
no care, and is completely comfortable. Also, recovery time is faster than ever before. Just comfortable, clear vision. |

Diabetic
eyes require special attention
Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people under age 60. If you're diabetic, it's essential to have annual checkups. Dr. Bernstein has additional fellowship training in medical diseases of the retina, like diabetes. So Dr. Bernstein always checks for diabetic damage, even if there is no history of diabetes. If the doctor discovers you have damaged sight due to a diabetic condition, blindness is not inevitable if you take the right precautions. To treat it, he'll use the Argon laser to shrink weak blood vessels and prevent hemorrhaging. And the best part is, it's all done right here in the office.
See better without glasses or contacts through Laser Vision Correction
Now, Dr. Bernstein can eliminate the need for contacts and eyewear through a time-proven modern procedure called LASIK. This procedure reduces nearsightedness and astigmatism to the point where glasses may no longer be necessary. If your nearsightedness or astigmatism is moderate and stable, and you and your eyes are in good health, you may be a candidate for Laser Vision Correction. Just call Dr. Bernstein and ask about a FREE screening to learn more about this vision-restoring procedure. You could be on your way to clearer vision today-without eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Pterygium (It's hard to pronounce, but easy to treat.)
If you've noticed a wing-shaped growth in the inner comer of your eye that's
red yellowish-brown in color, you could have a Pterygium (tarij-e-um). It's
a common eye tumor caused by exposure to ultraviolet sunlight. In the worst
cases, a Pterygium could eventually cover the whole eye and cause blindness
if left untreated. That's why it's important to have a specialist, like
Dr. Bernstein, evaluate your condition and determine the type of treatment,
if any. If surgery is needed, Dr. Bernstein is highly qualified in performing
this procedure.
Macular Degeneration
A big word you shouldn't be afraid of. As you grow older, age can take a toll on the macula's of your eyes, causing decreased vision. In fact, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is the most common cause of new blindness in people over 65. Early detection is critical for successful treatment of more serious cases, which is why Dr. Bernstein's eye exams always include careful inspection of the macula. If ARMD is present, he uses the latest treatments, including fluorescein angiography, and the Argon and Krypton lasers.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a painless eye disease known as the silent thief of vision. Unfortunately, it's very common and is found in about one in fifty adults. Glaucoma can occur at any age, but tends to occur more frequently as we get older. The most common variety causes a slow, painless loss of vision and if left unchecked, will eventually lead to total blindness. Glaucoma doesn't produce symptoms until it's too late. Fortunately, glaucoma can be controlled and thus prevented from robbing you of your vision if detected early. The only way to tell if you have glaucoma is to have an eye exam.
